JOHN Buckley will step up his search for a goalscorer after seeing his side go into the mid-season break as the Super League’s bottom side.

Belles produced arguably their worst display of the season on Saturday, going down 2-0 at home to fellow strugglers Liverpool.

Doncaster are the lowest scorers in the division with just five goals to their name from five matches - and Buckley hopes to add to his side’s firepower during the break for the Olympics.

Buckley said: “I need to bring someone in who can score goals.

“We’re getting lots of balls into the box but nobody is the on the end of them.

“Millie [Bright] tried hard on Saturday but she was getting dragged into midfield.

“We need to be more of a threat in the opposition’s penalty area.”

Stunning strikes from Lynda Shepherd and Katie Brusell saw Liverpool leapfrog Belles in the FAWSL standings, while the Belles flattered to deceive on their big family fun day.

“The performance wasn’t acceptable,” said Buckley.

“I carry the can for it because I’m the manager.

“I won’t try and escape that.

“But what chance does the manager have if we don’t close down the ball and work hard?

“If I’d have come to watch that I would not have been impressed.”

Mary Earps, Kasia Lipka, Beth England and Jess Sigsworth this week flew to Turkey with England for the U19 European Championships.
