Non-League Day saw attendances significantly up at many grounds no more so than at Sandygate Road where 325 turned up to see the Division One’s second-placed side Hallam host third in the table Hemsworth MW.
Unfortunately Ryan Hindley’s side couldn’t conjur up a victory as the visitors left with a 2-1 win although the Countrymen did score a contender for the goal of the season.
Bill Law fired Hemsworth into a sixth minute lead but Hallam equalised when a corner was only partially headed clear to the lurking Micah Bishop 30-yards out. He chested the ball down before hitting a stunning dipping volley over the keeper and in off the underside of the bar.
Hallam lost top scorer Michael Blythen to injury just before half-time and the contest was settled on 58 minutes when Shane Kelsey tucked away the winner. J
Worksop Town kept the pressure on the Premier Division leaders Tadcaster Albion with a solid 3-1 win at Rainworth MW, their sixth on the spin in the league and eighth in all outings.
Tigers were in front after three minutes through Kyle Jordan’s cool finishand Jordan almost grabbed a second but saw his lob over the keeper cleared off the line by ex-Tigers defender Connor Smythe. Jordan did grab his second on 27 minutes, getting the last touch from a free-kick into the box before completing his hat-trick on 51 minutes from Mitch Husbands pull-back for his 14th goal of the season. Rainworth pulled one back deep into time added on.
Parkgate went down 4-0 at promotion hopefuls Cleethorpes Town where the Steelmen held out until the 52nd minute. Armthorpe Welfare were beaten 2-0 at bogey side Pickering Town, while Athersley Recreation suffered a fifth defeat in six losing 3-0 at home against Albion Sports.
Maltby Main lost 1-0 at home against Garforth Town where the visitors top scorer Mark Simpson grabbed his 12th of the season midway through the second half.
Penistone Church took their unbeaten league run to 10 games after coming from behind to beat Teversal 5-1.
Lewis Dickinson’s 30th minute penalty cancelled out the visitors 19th minute opener. Oliver Fearon netted twice inside the opening 15 minutes of the second half to put the hosts in control. Dickinson soon added a fourth before completing his hat-trick from the penalty spot in time added on.
Worsbrough Bridge Athletic were held at home to a 1-1 draw by struggling Grimsby Borough. Jack Portman gave the Briggers the lead three minutes before the interval only for the visitors to grab a point with 11 minutes from time that left Worsbrough without a win in four.
Its now seven leagued efeats on the spin for Rossington Main after a 2-0 home reversal against Yorkshire Amateur.1
