Maltby Main continued their excellent pre-season campaign with a 1-1 draw against a Sheffield United XI.

Ben Thornton put the Miners in front but the lead lasted just six minutes as Jerome Slew leveled matters.

Maltby have won five and drawn one of seven friendly outings and will be hoping to carry that form into the league when they open with a tough trip to Tadcaster Albion on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Maltby have released a book looking back at the history of the club as part of next year’s centenary celebrations.

Titled the ‘The Main Men’ by Peter Kenny, it is a comprehensive history of the club over the past 100 years as well as a season-by-season description of the team’s performances. The book is available for £10 at the ground on matchdays or direct from the club.

Armthorpe Welfare beat Ossett Town 2-0 with goals from Danny Mansaram and James Handley on Saturday, before a 6-2 success at Hatfield Main on Tuesday ahead of their NCEL curtain raiser at Pontefract Collieries on Saturday.

Rossington Main lost 2-1 at Balby Carr as they finalised preparations ahead of their first league outing of the season when they host AFC Emley on Saturday.
