South Yorkshire cup triumph for Trinity Academy

The Thorne school defeated Balby Carr and Don Valley on the way to the final of the 72 team tournament.

The entered the decider without influencial skipper Robbie Spence who was sidelined with injury.

Silverdale took the lead after ten minutes but goals from Calum Tiffany and Daniel Linley saw Trinity turn the tables.

Second half strikes from Harry Middleton, Josh Cadman and Billy Kirkham secured the trophy.

Stand-in skipper Ben Middleton rewarded the faith place in him by producing a man of the match performance.

Academy principal Ian Brew said: “This is the first cup we have won at this level and everyone at Trinity is very proud of the team’s performance.

“It was a real team effort with some outstanding individual performances.

“Now we’re targeting the Doncaster Schools Cup in the hope we can do the double.”
