Always believe in Rob Jones!

Doncaster’s skipper returned from a seven-month absence to head Rovers to victory against relegation-threatened Leyton Orient.

The 35-year-old headed home powerfully from 12 yards to earn Doncaster only their second win in their last nine games.

Jones’ return was one of three changes to the side that drew with Rochdale on Saturday, with Harry Middleton and Cedric Evina also handed starts.

The goal capped a bright start to the second half from Rovers after Orient had the better of a poor quality first half.

Rovers survived a penalty shout in the 13th minute when McAnuff went down in the box but referee Carl Berry waved play on.

Orient then went close went Dossena stole in at the back post but prodded just wide.

Bywater had to produce an excellent save to deny Henderson from point blank range after good work down the right from Bartley.

It took 38 minutes for Rovers to register their first effort on target. Bennett’s shot was blocked and the rebound fell to Coppinger whose 30-yard strike was saved comfortably by Cisak.

From a break from a corner, Main then sliced an effort wide after he was picked out by Bennett.

Clarke-Harris replaced Middleton at the interval. It was a sign of intent from Doncaster and they began the second half on the front foot, as Bennett’s shot on the turn forced good stop from Cisak before Orient eventually hacked clear from a goalmouth scramble.

And they soon got their reward when Jones marked his comeback with a trademark headed goal, powering home Bennett’s free-kick delivery.

Clarke-Harris tested Cisak’s handling with a decent hit from 20 yards as Rovers continued to press.

Orient looked down and out but the home side began to press with 20 minutes remaining and Bywater had to be at full stretch to keep out Wright from 18 yards.

The home side had plenty of possession during the final phase of the game but they failed to carve out any real openings as Rovers held on for their ninth away win in the league this season.
