Brian Flynn was keen to deflect the praise after seeing his Doncaster Rovers side crowned League One champions following an extraordinary climax to the season.

Flynn, whose contract as manager expires today, was almost in tears on the touchline as James Coppinger netted a last gasp winner in Saturday’s ‘winner takes all’ decider at Brentford.

Just seconds earlier, in one of the most dramatic ends to a season you could wish to see, Marcello Trotta’s penalty had hit the bar at the other end.

“All credit to the lads, it was a monumental effort,” said the Welshman, following Rovers’ 1-0 win.

“Thankfully it came right in the end.

“When you concede a penalty in the third minute of added time you fear the worst.

“But it’s turned out brilliantly and it’s great that James [Coppinger] got the goal. He’s been a big part of this club.

“It’s a beautiful game is football, and crazy at times.

“We’ve got to enjoy the moment and then build on this for next season,” he added. “I’m sure that will be done.

“To come from relegation and nearly disaster last year, it could have been difficult.

“But all credit to Dean Saunders and Brian Carey and all the staff who’ve built a really good squad between them.

“That quality really showed when we needed it.

“I celebrated with the fans at the end but on days like this it’s all about the players. It’s their moment.”
