James Coppinger believes the manner of the draw with Millwall will see Rovers kick on and cross the Championship safety line.

A run of four straight defeats was ended with a point at the New Den, earned with a great deal of hard work following the controversial dismissal of Abdoulaye Meite just before half time.

Coppinger was full of praise for the battling spirit and says the performance has set Rovers up nicely for the final two games of the campaign.

“Sometimes you need a game like the one at Millwall to kick you on,” Coppinger said.

“The nature of the result, the fact that we had to stick together, play for one another and work hard for each other.

“In the last four games I think we’ve deserved points but to come away and put in that performance to get a result is massive.

“Getting that result could be the difference we need to stay up.

“Everyone knows the magnitude of the Reading game on Saturday and I’m sure everyone can see that we’ll be up for it.

“Everyone is working hard and doing the right things which, at this stage, is exactly what we need.

“No one is shirking responsibility.”

Rovers’ management were yesterday debating whether to appeal against Meite’s red card, given for a foul on Stefan Maierhofer.
