Paul Dickov says he won’t wait all summer to land Ishmael Miller.

Free agent Miller has been sounded out by Dickov about a switch to Doncaster.

Convincing the 27-year-old that his future lies at the Keepmoat Stadium would be something of a coup for the Scot, who has identified his former teammate as a suitable replacement for Chris Brown.

But Rovers’ boss insists he will only be “patient to a point” in his pursuit of the former Manchester City and West Bromwich Albion frontman.

“Ishmael cleaned my boots when he was a 16-year-old at Manchester City,” said Dickov.

“He is someone we’ve spoken about.

“Ishmael, at the minute, is looking to get Championship football. That’s as far as it’s gone.

“We’ll be patient to a point,” he added.

“We’re not going to wait on answers for players so they can try and find something better.

“With certain players we have put deadlines on it.”

Dickov has also fired a warning to agents ahead of the club’s impending takeover, which is due to be formalised on Friday.

He said: “One thing we won’t be doing - and this isn’t necessarily the case with Ishmael - is to be held to ransom by agents.

“They think, with the takeover, we’ve got hundred of millions of pounds to work with.

“But we’ve got to work within our budget.”
