BILLY Sharp has turned down a £3.25m move to Championship new boys Southampton.

The 25-year-old has told John Ryan he is happy to stay at the Keepmoat Stadium despite the Saints’ bid.

Ryan and Rovers’ board of directors unanimously wanted Sharp to stay at Doncaster but chose to make the player aware of Southampton’s interest.

Sharp, however, indicated he is happy to remain a Rovers player - and is unlikely to move in this transfer window unless a Premier League club comes in for him.

The £3.25m price tag would have smashed the record for the highest transfer fee received by Rovers - which currently stands at the £2m that Reading paid for Matt Mills two years ago.

Sharp has also attracted interest from Ipswich Town this summer and Rovers rejected a £2.3m bid from the Tractor Boys for their star striker earlier this month.
