Doncaster Rovers pair Dean Furman and Bongani Khumalo helped South Africa stun world and European champions Spain on Tuesday night.
The duo both started for Bafana Bafana as they produced a high energy display to stifle Vicente Del Bosque’s all-star side and ran out 1-0 winners.
Khumalo wasted the best chance of the first half when he glanced a header from a corner just wide, before being replaced at half time.
Bernard Parker’s second half goal settled Tuesday night’s friendly international at Soccer City in Johannesburg, earning South Africa a deserved win.
Furman, who played the full ninety minutes, later tweeted: “Thanks for all your great messages tonight. What a great win for @bafana_bafana and South Africa over the world champs! The future is bright!”
Now the pair must quickly turn their attention to Friday night’s crunch clash at the bottom of the Championship when Yeovil Town visit the Keepmoat.
Khumalo is almost certain to start.
However, Furman may have to convince Rovers boss Paul Dickov that, following an all-action display and long-haul flight, he is fresh enough to face the Glovers.
