Doncaster Rovers: Dickov hails powers of recovery ahead of Oakwell trip

Doncaster Rovers boss Paul Dickov will be understandably keen to see his team strike the first blow at Barnsley tonight.

The Scot is thrilled with his team’s recent powers of recovery - coming from behind at Bradford, Rochdale and Crewe to earn seven points.

But he will no doubt be equally concerned at his side’s tendency to concede the first goal, which they have done in no fewer than 12 of their 17 league games so far this term. Indeed, Rovers have not scored the first goal in a league game since their win at home to Chesterfield on September 20.

However, Dickov says his team’s ability to fight back highlights the spirit in the camp ahead of tonight’s South Yorkshire derby.

Dickov said: “There’s a really good togetherness about the lads at the minute, and a desire to do well.

“I think that shows in the recent results. We came back at Bradford and won, went behind at Rochdale and won, went behind at Crewe and came back to draw.

“That shows there’s a lot of character in the squad.

“I’ve been really pleased with the fitness levels recently too. We’re finishing games looking really strong at the moment.

“The fact we’re coming from behind in games tells me that the players are gaining a lot of belief. Earlier in the season there were times we’d go a goal down and if we didn’t get the equaliser fairly soon we went a little bit flat.”
