Doncaster Rovers Belles manager John Buckley is demanding a better response from his players when they face fellow FAWSL strugglers Lincoln Ladies tonight.
The Scotsman had some harsh words for his side following their humiliating 9-0 defeat to league leaders Liverpool on Saturday night.
Buckley admitted that he was questioning himself following the drubbing which saw Belles 2-0 down and reduced to 10 men following a straight red for Tori Williams with just seven minutes gone.
“Deep down I’ve got to look at myself because they’re not really responding to me,” he said.
“Sometimes you just have to put your hands up and say maybe it might be time for somebody else to do it because I’m not getting a response out of them as much as I try.
“I’m disappointed. We can take a little bit of heart out of the second half but I question them in the first half, I question myself because it isn’t good enough.
“I need a lot of them to stand up and accept responsibility.
“I was brought up at Celtic so I got taught very early - if we didn’t look for the ball, they’d be all over us. I think in the first half when we went down 2-0 I just thought a lot of our players didn’t want it. Our heads went all over the place.”
Buckley is likely to ring the changes to winless Belles - who face life in WSL2 next season following their FA ‘relegation’ - particularly after forward Beth England suffered an ankle injury in the Liverpool defeat.
It is hoped skipper Leandra Little (shoulder) will be fit to face her former club.
Buckley added: “It’s a big game. No doubt they’ll fancy their chances because we’ve let in 15 in two games which isn’t great so I hope it doesn’t go to goal difference (at the end of the season).”
Belles v Lincoln, at the Keepmoat, 7.45pm kick-off.
