Bentley Colliery suffered their first defeat in four league games as title-chasing Westella Hanson picked up a 4-2 win at The Avenue to keep the pressure on Central Midlands League Northern Division leaders AFC Mansfield.
Ryan Nicholls and Billy Parkhouse shared the Colliery consolation goals as the Doncaster club returned to action after failing to raise a side for their League Challenge Cup tie at Pinxton the previous weekend.
Local rivals Brodsworth Welfare also tasted defeat, going down 3-1 away to improving Easington United.
Welfare’s hopes of picking up a long overdue win rose when Shane Carver put them ahead just after the interval.
But the home side hit back to score three goals without reply to send them home empty-handed.
High-flying Thorne Colliery were in Doncaster & District FA Cup action, coasting to a resounding 7-0 win over Doncaster Senior League outfit Harworth Colliery third X1 in their second round tie.
Darren Fell led the way with a hat trick with Glen Hookaway, Trevor Hindson, Scott Rhodes and Callum Tiffany also chipping for Thorne, who will fancy their chances of going all the way.
There was no such joy for struggling Askern, however.
