Thorne Colliery maintained their bright start to their 2015-16 Abacuus Lighting Central Midlands League North Division campaign when collecting their third win in as many starts, writes Steve Hossack.

Colliery, who had beaten newcomers Retford 4-1 in midweek on the back of goals by Darren Fell (2), Ross Ebbage and Kirk Frost, posted a 3-1 Doncaster derby win against Brodsworth Welfare at the Welfare Ground.

Fell took his total for the season to six with a third brace in as many games with Glynn Powell also chipping in for the visitors. Josh Bowkett was the Welfare scorer.

Welfare, for whom Rod Pursehouse netted, had also finished on the losing side in their Buckingham Insurance League Cup first round tie away to Division South strugglers Collingham in midweek, going down 3-1.

Askern posted their second big win in as many games when romping to a 7-0 derby success over visiting Bentley Colliery.

Gary Mundy notched the first local hat trick of the season in the league with brother Shaun bagging a brace along with Joe Byron.

Beaten 4-0 in midweek at Appleby Frodingham, who top the table on points difference, Bentley have yet to pick up a point or score a goal this season.

Harworth Colliery, who had broken the deadlock with a Lewis Francis goal just after the hour mark, looked like celebrating their delayed start to the campaign with a midweek win at Ollerton Town only to be denied by a last-kick equaliser.
