The Doncaster Business Cup will celebrate its fifth anniversary by supporting five Doncaster charities, it has been announced.

Two teams of local businessmen will meet in the annual football fundraiser at the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday, July 18.

Proceeds from this year’s event will be donated to Firefly, Aurora, Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, Doncaster Rovers Foundation Club and the North Ridge Community School.

Team captain and event founder Dave Plant, of Moirae, said: “It’s great to be doing this for local people in the spirit of co-operation, and to have the support of so many as well.

“Overall we estimate over 50 businesses will contribute in some way, and that’s amazing.”

This year’s Business Cup is sponsored by Crown Hotel Bawtry and also One Call Insurance.

Last year’s event raised £7,500 for Doncaster-based cancer charity Firefly.

The next training session will be held tonight from 6-8pm at the Keepmoat Stadium.
