Clive Griffiths is only too aware of the need for Doncaster Knights to start their season on the front foot.
Doncaster launch their Championship campaign at home to Plymouth Albion tomorrow (2.30pm).
They follow that up with a trip to Jersey who only just avoided relegation last season.
Knights’ potentially tricky re-introduction to life in the second tier then sees them meet well-fancied Worcester Warriors and Yorkshire Carnegie outfits later this month.
So director of rugby Griffiths is hopeful his side can put home advantage to good use this weekend and hit the ground running.
“You need a good start in any league,” said Griffiths.
“We said that last year when we won the first six and gained some momentum.
“It’s going to be the same this season.
“Plymouth have recruited very well, as have we, so it’s going to be a real humdinger on Saturday.
“It’s good to have a home game at the start,” he added.
“I’m sure Plymouth will be looking at it as an opportunity to play the new guys on the block and get a win here.
“But we’ll be equally determined to make sure that we are the victors on the day.”
Knights have warmed up for the new season with wins over Swansea, Newcastle Falcons and Tynedale.
