THE Thornensians Development XV suffered a 51-3 defeat to their undefeated Barnsley counterparts at Coulman Road on Saturday.
Conran Hanson scored a penalty for Thorne, who spent a lot of time in the Barnsley half.
But the strong visitors were impressive on the break and ran in four tries in the first half.
Thorne continued to play good rugby after the break but lots of missed tackles let Barnsley in to round off their victory.
The Development XV host Sheffield Tigers this weekend while the first team are at home to high flying neighbours Goole ahead of the Tuesday evening clash with Wath-upon-Dearne in the Yorkshire Silver Trophy.
Ahead of the Goole tie will be the latest pre-match lunch which will be attended by friends from the Goole outfit.
The match and lunch will mark the first anniversary of the sad loss of Gerry Hutchinson, the club’s ‘beloved heroine’ who served and supported for many years.
n THORNENSIANS would like to express their thanks to Glyn Brocklesby who organised the successful and popular Irish Night last Friday.
While Irish eyes were smiling the next day following their Six Nations triumph, England’s defeat only slightly dampened the mood at the 60th birthday celebrations of club stalwart Pete Kennedy.
