NEITHER team wanted to lose and many tackles but it was the younger Colliery team which took the lead.

A Glen Hookway deflected shot that was goalbound.

Thorne Town played an intimidating game which prevented the new Colliery team playing the p
assing football they have produced in recent matches. Half time 1-0.

The second half started to show the football Colliery are capable of as they passed the ball quicker.

Using the majority of the squad soon made it 2-0 with a Walker free-kick whipped in for Ryan Denby to head home.

More goals could have come and Town were limited to half chances, except for an opportunity for Town to pull back.

A Town forward went round the Colliery 'keeper but with an open goal, he was brilliantly thwarted by Colliery's man of the match, Luke Rafferty.

The pre-season training and fitness for Colliery paid dividends, and good football soon brought a third goal scored by Bembridge.

This was a good last game before the season starts, even though Colliery didn't play as good as against Appleby Frodingham, they dominated a fiercely fought local derby.

Thorne Mayor Carole Williams presented the winning captain, Colliery's Scott Denby, with the Memorial Shield.
