BOWLED over by success is a young Thorne cricketer who has been selected to represent Yorkshire Cricket Academy.
James Pickersgill (17) of Ashtree Road has been playing cricket since he was nine-years-old when he joined Fishlake Under-11s.

His father Robert Pickersgill told the Gazette: "His selection for the Yorkshire Academy team at such a young age is a tremendous achievement.

"He hopes that he continues to develop as a cricketer and is able ultimately to join the ranks of the full time professionals."

After joining Fishlake, it was not long before James was selected for the Doncaster and District Under-11s representative side and soon afterwards for the Yorkshire Schools Under-11s team.

From the age of 11 to 16 James continued to represent Yorkshire Schools and was selected for the North Of England Schools under 13s 14s and 15s teams.

Off-spinner James, a Trinity Academy student, is now attached to Appleby Frodingham Cricket club which plays in the Yorkshire League and has several professional and semi-professional players in the first team inclluding Derbyshire's Greg Smith.

James had taken 20 wickets for the first team this season already.
