MOORENDS-Thorne Marauders trekked over to West Yorkshire in the knowledge that their discerning critics were giving them no chance against the undefeated Yorkshire Cup semi-finalists.

And the visitors were missing several key players when they received a further double blow when Ryan Rafferty pulled out at the eleventh hour and Cliff Key could not get away from work leaving the South Yorkshiremen with just 15 of their 17 named players.

The deadlock was broken by Wayne Green on 14 minutes when he cleverly chipped the ball between two defenders before winning the race to re-gather and dive over next to the posts, Green added the extra points, 0-6.

But the home side soon replied with six points and added another.

Marauders settled down and were pulled back twice by the referee Paul Crashley after Wayne Green had put in two great looking cross-field kicks only for Matty Bingley to be ruled off-side the first time and Alex Palmer the second.

A cruel decision a minute before half time against the visitors was a bitter pill to swallow after all the hard graft being put in by the 15.

Dave Knott and Craig Holt made a solid tackle on Caldon Bravo who, on the way to the ground, flicked out a pass that went forward before again bouncing towards the Moorends goal and the try was allowed, to end 18-6 at half time.

The next score proved to be the bridge too far to leave the Marauders playing catch-up football for the rest of the game.

The home side enjoyed four back-to-back sets after the referee deemed that the Marauders had reefed the ball out late in the tackle count on three occasions.

Marauders refused to buckle and great forward work by Wayne Rafferty, Shaun Carver and Kev Lake drove the visitors deep inside the Warriors half.

A quick play the ball by Greg Neill allowed Adam Lloyd to dive over from acting half back, Wayne Green converted, 24-12.

Hunslet edged themselves further ahead on 57 minutes, 28-12.

The next ten minutes saw both defences well on top until the 67th minute when the home side scored again.

The visitors pressed on and after great forward play Mark Roach crabbed across the front of the Warriors defence drawing three defenders and creating the hole for Jason Blanchard to crash through and cross between the posts, Wayne Green converted 34-18.

On their next attack in the Warriors half Gaz Everton displayed why Pete Green brought the prop to the club as he crashed through the defensive line scattering defenders before going over the top of the full-back to finish off his 30-metre charge between the posts. Wayne Green converted the kick, 34-24.

With three minutes left, the Marauders were caught by another Hunslet try.

This Saturday the Marauders are at home against Batley Boys, kick-off 2pm.
