THE girls knew their winning start to the season would be severely tested as they hosted the two teams favoured to finish top of the league.

Nottingham Wildcats opened with a full court press which Fliers found difficult to handle.

They were no
t phased, however, and by the end of the first quarter the score was just 13-6 to the visitors.

By half time the pressure was starting to tell but still the score was a respectable 22-10.

Nottingham were able to dominate after the interval and went on to win the game 36-16, a score which flattered them.

FLIERS showed tremendous improvement against a big and very athletic Northants team.

By the end of the first quarter the score was 10-10 and by half time Fliers were still in the game at 19-16.

The third quarter saw Fliers play their best basketball ever to take the lead at 28-26.

With just three minutes to go the scores were level but a late run by the visitors just took the game away from the Fliers as Nothants took the game 42-36.

Christy Brown led all scorers with 18 points and Rhianna Laing and Weng Ye Yuen battled all day against tremendous pressure.

Kerry Briggs once more gave the Fliers some much needed aggression under the basket.

FLIERS' Under-16s team continued a difficult season with a trip to Manchester Mystics and were overwhelmed.

This week they host Doncaster Panthers while the Under-14s travel to Telford to take on Team Shropshire and Sheffield Hatters.
