Church Warsop FC 4
Thorne Colliery FC 2
FOR Colliery, the game had good and bad points, like any team starting out at this standard. Colliery's opponents, Church Warsop FC, are a well organised side, having many of the Welbeck Welfare's players from last year, with a decent pitch and good
set-up to match.

It was a nervous start for Colliery, but they weren't overwhelmed by the step up. Colliery started the game well, and after being denied a clear penalty for hand-ball, Colliery took the lead when a cracking shot from Ryan Denby was fumbled by the home keeper, and finished off by Hookway. That was where the good start ended. It might have been the excitement or shock that Colliery could score first, but it went wrong for twenty minutes. Colliery's confident start was gone, and were now making nervous mistakes, and Church Warsop scored three goals in twenty minutes of madness. Half-time Church Warsop 3-1 Thorne Colliery.

A few choice words were said and a few forced changes were made for the second half due to injuries, but Colliery started the fight back and where they were pushed and bullied in the first half, took the game back to their opponents.

Colliery got their passing game back, but suffered a set-back when a Church Warsop free kick was lost amongst the players and rebounded off the post to be slotted in to make it 4-1. But this young side kept battling and kept pushing Church Warsop back and won quite a few consecutive corners. The pressure paid off when Colliery scored, by Church Warsop's own admission, the goal of the game. Thomas' skill on the right wing, took him past three players, to lay the ball off to Bembridge. His reverse ball fell to Ryan Denby and he scored a well worked goal. This saw Colliery now encamped in the Warsop half, and if they could have scraped another goal with ten minutes left, they could have shocked this pretty good side, but it wasn't to be.

If Colliery had played like they did in the second half for the whole 90 minutes it would have been a different result. In parts of the game, Colliery were out-battled and could have thrown the towel in, but this is a side that shows Thorne grit, and will get better and stronger and will win games because this team will step up to the task.
