FLIERS' Under 14s team made the long journey to Telford to take on the home side Team Shropshire and Sheffield Hatters.

The first match was against the hosts who were clearly very inexperienced.

Within five minutes Fliers were 15-0 up and the g
ame was effectively over.

This allowed all players to experience equal court time and even leave the entire starting five on the bench for one whole quarter.

Still the score mounted as Fliers eventually took the game 56-6.

Unfortunately late in the game power forward Keri Briggs damaged her knee and was unable to play in the match against Sheffield which was always going to be tough.

FLIERS started well with point guard Rhianna Laing outstanding and led 6-5 at the end of the first quarter.

By half time the lead was still one point at 14-13.

The third quarter saw Fliers make some crucial errors which were punished by their opposition.

Fliers came back however and trailed by just two points early in the last quarter.

Once again Hatters scored baskets off turnovers to lead 32-23.

At this point Fliers started to perform again and brought the score to 32-29 when time ran out.

A spokesman for the Fliers said: "This had been a good game and Fliers now know they can compete with the best.

"With greater intensity both on the practice court and in matches victories against these top teams can surely come their way."

FLIERS' Under 16s continued their difficult run of games taking on a very strong side and did well to restrict the visitors to just 61 points.

Scoring against the best defence in the league proved difficult as Fliers managed just 24.

This week is the Inter Regional Tournament so there are no club matches.
