Leaders mini basketball 15
Fliers 55
FLIERS' mini basketball team opened their season on last Saturday after making the short journey to Barnsley to take on the Leaders.

From the outset Fliers looked a more experienced outfit with regional player Rhianna Laing controlling the offence
and ably assisted by Steph Kelly.

By the end of the first quarter Fliers held a 12-3 lead which they extended to 33-11 by half time when the contest was effectively over.

Fliers then gave all players equal minutes in the second half including a debut for Tim Audas playing his first ever game of basketball.

He went on to score the last basket of the game as Fliers took the match 55-15.

Not surprisingly Laing top scored with 14 points with Kelly chipping in with ten.

All players scored at least one basket. Most pleasing was the fact that Fliers played four girls and six boys against an all boys team.

This week both National League teams see action as the Under-16s travel to Manchester to take on the Mystics.

The Under-14s team will be severely tested in their home tournament against unbeaten Nottingham and Northampton at the Sports Centre on Sunday.
