Dunscroft win championship
DUNSCROFT Welfare Under-8s won the Killamarsh football tournament championship last Sunday.
The team, wearing their new Signet Industrial Distribution sponsored kit, expected an uphill struggle as the team had only one substitute.
But the boys excelled themselves and sailed through the group stages, scoring 13 goals and conceding only one.
Scorers included James Gill, Joel Lattibeaudiere, Shania Robinson, Luke Black, Kyle Blackburn and Connor Gray.
The quarter-final against Greaseborough was a one-sided affair which Dunscroft won 2-0 to go into the semi-finals. Goals were scored by James Mattocks and Lattibeaudiere.
The semi-final against Woodhouse B proved to be a much sterner test with Blackburn scoring the only goal of a hard fought victory to take his team into the final against Dodworth.
Normal time of the final was at a stalemate as both sides hit the woodwork and the Dodworth 'keeper pulled off a wonder save from a right foot volley from new found striker Arry Jackson.
This sent the final into extra time with the golden goal rule coming into operation.
Again the teams created good chances, but a combination of fine saves and last ditch tackles sent the game into the last minute with the result balanced on a knife edge.
With both sets of players on their last legs and the dreaded penalty shoot-out looming, Lattibeaudiere pounced on a loose ball 15 yards out and let fly with a trademark right-foot screamer.
This rocketed past a stranded Dodworth 'keeper and into the bottom corner with only seconds left on the clock, handing the game and the championship to an exhausted but exhilarated Dunscroft side.
