THORNENSIANS Under 15’s travelled to Dinnington in confident mood following recent performances and they were attempting to overturn a defeat suffered just before Christmas.

This confidence did not show itself on the field
.

With Thorne playing up the slope and against the wind Dinnington quickly capitalised on Thorne mistakes and ran in two early tries which they converted taking a 14-0 lead.

Another try for the home team followed making it 19-0 only 20 minutes into the game.

Thorne then rallied for the final ten minutes of the half and only errors prevented them putting points on the board.

As in the previous games the second half was dominated by Thorne and a hat trick from man of the match Evan Johnson brought Thorne back into the game.

Other opportunities came Thornes way but errors just short of the line and a disallowed try along with missed conversions meant that Dinnington kept the lead 19-15 going into the last ten minutes.

Thorne could not improve on this and in the dying seconds Dinnington converted a final try and they ran out 26-15 winners.

Man of the match was Evan Johnson.

Thorne will now have to wait until next season to gain revenge.

Thornensians are currently looking for year six and seven players to fulfil fixtures later this season. Training is on Wednesdays, start 6pm.
