VIDEO: Doncaster’s new £22 million theatre Cast opens its doors

The curtain has finally gone up on Doncaster’s new £22 million theatre Cast after a grand opening ceremony.

Hundreds of people of all ages packed into Sir Nigel Gresley Square for the Cast Of Thousands event which included performances from Doncaster jazz star Dennis Rollins, live music, dance and story telling before the start of a two week run of comedy musical mining drama The Glee Club.

Cool weather failed to dampen spirits and over the course of the weekend, the Waterdale venue threw open its doors for an Open House weekend, allowing visitors to take a glimpse behind the scenes as well as enjoy a series of music and drama workshops and ‘pop-up’ performances.

Cast executive director Kully Thiarai tweeted after the opening: “Many thanks to many, many people who made @castindoncaster opening such a brilliant and momentous thing.”

The theatre takes centre stage in the council’s £300 million Civic and Cultural Quarter.
