A DAZZLING world first at Sheffield’s Tramlines festival turned a bright idea by sponsors Nokia into a spectacular finale - as they lit the crowd with illuminated wrist bands.
Around 8,000 of the so-called Xylobands were handed out before Sheffield’s Reverend and the Makers performed on the Nokia ‘Lumia Live’ main stage in Devonshire Green.
The Xylobands, part owned and previously used indoors by Coldplay, were controlled remotely by the Nokia Lumia Tramlines festival producers to flash and light up in time to the music.
It was the first time they had been used at a music festival anywhere in the world.
They were turned on as Reverend and the Makers performed their final song, Silence is Talking and the audience became an integral part of the Tramlines show.
A high-octane set by DJ collective, True Tiger, followed as a spectacular light show on two big screens accompanied the flashing Xylobands.
Jason Regler, the inventor of Xylobands, said, “It was amazing to once again see how well the bands worked in an outdoor venue and how they enhanced the festival experience. The unity and positive energy is overwhelming at times, with the Xylobands almost controlling the atmosphere.
“It was so nice to see so many people having a great time. We were thrilled to be a part of Nokia’s lightshow, particularly at a great free festival like Tramlines”.
For Nokia, Xylobands and the show represents a progression in their ‘Lumia’ story. John Nichols, Head of Marketing, Nokia UK commented:”We really brought the Lumia light to Sheffield- kicking off this great festival with a stunning show that connected the local community to one of the city’s favourite bands.”
Tramlines continued throughout the weekend, with popular venues Plug and DQ also playing host to Nokia’s Lumia Live gigs.
