Train victim identified by fingerprints

POLICE used the latest fingerprint technology to identify the Doncaster man killed by a train earlier this week, it has been disclosed.

British Transport Police were able to establish less than an hour after the incident that the man struck by the London to Leeds passenger train on Monday afternoon was Richard Straw, aged 28.

The inquest into the death of Mr Straw was told a mobile fingerprint system was taken to the trackside location near Atkinsons crossing at Adwick-le-Street and prints taken from the body matched those on the police national computer.

Det Con Ian Grice said Scarlett, the three-year-old daughter Mr Straw was holding in his arms when the train hit them, was airlifted to hospital where she is in a “stable” condition.

The inquest on Mr Straw, of Wellington Grove, Bentley, was adjourned for more inquiries.
