Football fans joined hundreds of family, neighbours, and workmates at the funeral of a Mexborough man who was found dead in the garden of his home.

Liverpool FC supporters wore Manchester United shirts with pride as a mark of respect at Aidan Diver’s funeral which was held at the town’s parish church on Friday.

Labourer Aidan, 21, was found dead outside his home at Windhill Crescent on the morning of August 3.

He had been out with friends in Rotherham the previous evening and had, said his family, been happy and joking that last time they saw him alive.

His brother Kieron, 22, was on holiday in Turkey when he learned about the tragedy on the social networking site Facebook.

Hundreds of messages were posted on it as Aidan’s friends from around the area pooled their grief.
