The 219 Transport Squadron will be holding a recruitment event on Wednesday October 9 at Sandford Road, Balby. The TA unit is reaching out to prospective new recruits as the event will showcase the employment opportunities with the Territorial Army.
The day is part of an extensive recruitment campaign, TA LIVE, which launched in February. The campaign is promoting the TA over the next 12 months through a range of activities and events where potential recruits can find out more about the TA and talk to TA soldiers. The nationwide drive is designed to expand the Territorial Army to 30,000 soldiers by 2018.
The campaign launched with innovative, attention-grabbing adverts broadcast live from operations in Afghanistan. The adverts captured TA soldiers going about their everyday duties as Reservists in Afghanistan alongside their Regular counterparts. With each advert running for approximately one minute, the viewer was transported directly to the front line witnessing first-hand how people with very similar lives to theirs are volunteering to serve their country as a fulfilling second career.
TA units and local communities from all over the country are backing the campaign and taking part in over 150 demonstrations and public events at popular regional spots to show what the TA is all about.
A huge range of TA careers have also been represented across the country. Chefs, drivers, medics, caterers, infantrymen, engineers, signallers and many more have come together to demonstrate that there are over different 200 roles available for people interested in joining the TA. All applications are administered through the dedicated National Recruiting Centre, where a mentor is assigned to each applicant to guide him or her through the process of joining
Brigadier Andrew Jackson, the Director of Recruiting and Training for the Army said: “We are always looking for talented people to take up the challenge of a career in the Army. No matter what your skills or background, the Army has something to offer you and an Army job provides opportunities to learn much more beyond military skills. It will develop you and show you the strengths you didn’t know you had. These statistics show that one in five people would consider joining the Army so we need to encourage those individuals to come forward and find out more about joining us.
“No matter what its size, the Army is always recruiting to ensure we have enough quality junior ranks and officers to sustain the organisation and keep it ready for the challenges of the future. We pride ourselves on recruiting individuals who demonstrate talent and promise, and then provide them with all the training and development opportunities they need. Today is about helping people in Balby take the first step toward a successful career in the Army, and beyond.”
Recruiting remains one of the Army’s highest priorities. The Army offers a wide variety of jobs for both soldiers and officers, in the Regular and Territorial Army, with over 200 different roles available.
