THORNE air cadet Tavia Howard enjoyed a day she will never forget when she took control of a Grob Tutor aircraft for the first time.
Tavia joined other cadets on an air experience flight day at RAF Church Fenton near Tadcaster.
She was in the air for around 30 minutes and took control of the aircraft.
She said afterwards: “It was ace. It was fun because I got to fly the plane and do some aerobatics.”
Flight Sergeant Martyn Corfield, from Thorne Air Cadets added: “Many people do not realise that air cadets actually do go into the air, but flying is an important part of cadet life.”
Flying and gliding are one of many activities that Thorne Air Cadets is involved with. Most of the cadets also study for BTEC Awards in public services and aviation studies.
The group say it is always on the lookout for new recruits and invite anyone between the age of 13 to 17 to get involved.
