SLIDESHOW: Sharing the fun in winter wonderland

Waiting for Video...

The Isle became a winter wonderland for youngsters as around three inches of snow fell recently.

Schools in the area remained open and pupils built snowmen while sledging and snowball fights became the sport for the day on Monday.

With more snow forecast and no sign yet of rising temperatures, council workers are working hard to lessen the effects of the continuing cold snap.

A North Lincolnshire Council spokesman said, “Gritting teams have been working around the clock to keep the highways open.

“We have used snow ploughs in some areas and tractor drivers have helped us to replenish stocks of salt. Our thanks go to them.

“Rural teams have been deployed to keep our market towns moving and have been working in Crowle and Epworth market place, helping to keep our businesses trading.

North Lincolnshire Council stopped collections of brown bins following a number of missed rounds across the area because of icy footpaths and vehicles blocking routes. There will be no collections of brown bins for the rest of week so extra staff can collect green and burgundy bins.
