A young footballer living the American dream has been snapped up by California after netting the top goalscorer gong in his first season.
Haydn Cahill, of Acacia Road, Skellow, is currently home preparing for his big move after completing a year of study in New Jersey where he has been on a scholarship.
On the pitch, the former Doncaster College student’s impressive performances have seen the 20-year-old talent scouted by California.
And Haydn, who signed a two-year deal in the West Coast, admits he is a “late bloomer” having only played football for the last 10 years.
“This move will decide my future, I can’t express how excited I am,” said the fast-paced forward, who was also in Jersey at the time the deadly Hurricane Sandy struck.
“I am doing this to not only make myself, family and friends proud, but to make my hometown of Doncaster proud too.”
Haydn will be jet-setting for the US in mid-July for the start of pre-season.
