A MOTHER and daughter are counting down to their first 10k run - despite never even breaking walking pace up to three months ago.

Retired Kay Case, 63, decided to lace up her trainers for the charity which runs the Doncaster shop where she does voluntary work.

And it inspired Emma Haughey, 36, to get fit alongside her mum ahead of the Great Yorkshire Run in Sheffield.

Kay, of Florence Avenue, Balby, volunteers in the Save the Children shop in Silver Street and wants to raise plenty of money for the charity.

Emma, of Alexandra Road, Balby, is using Sunday’s event to donate to Parkinson’s UK after her father was diagnosed with the condition.

Kay said: “When I started neither of us could even run for 30 seconds.

“I will complete it - I might be on all fours but I’ll finish.”
