Pupils from Thorne are planning to return overseas to help vulnerable and poverty stricken communities.
The aid workers from Thorne’s Trinity Academy travelled to South Africa last year where they helped to run a deworming programme to improve people’s homes and land for cultivation.
The year 12 students will return in the summer, and in preparation young students have been holding a Fairtrade fair in school to help fund the charity trip.
The fair was held during breaks and lunchtimes and at the academy in Church Balk.
Geography teacher Shaun McArthur was very pleased with the efforts of the students who were raising money for the worthwhile cause.
He said: “The students have thrown themselves into this project with enthusiasm.”
