For it was at Stoke's Britannia Stadium that the rebirth of the club began - the setting for Rovers' dramatic return to the Football League after being cast into the oblivion of non-league wildnerness by the despised Ken Richardson regime.

It was on May 10, 2003 that thousands of Rovers fans descended on Staffordshire for the Nationwide Conference Play-Off final where they were pitted against Dagenham and Redbridge in a tense encounter.

Rovers raced into a 2-0 lead through Paul Green and Dave Morley, but the Daggers hit back to make it 2-2, drawing the match into extra-time and a golden goal finale - whichever team scored first would win the match, end the game and secure that Football League place.

Step forward Francis Tierney to score that goal, secure a 3-2 win and earn himself an honorary 'knighthood' from Rovers fans in the process and spark scenes of wild jubilation on City's pitch.
