HOPING to leave her life in a BT call centre behind is an aspiring model from Epworth.

Rachael Jayne Hill (21) of Fieldside has reached the finals of the Miss Community 2012 event, thanks to sponsorship by judge Miss Alexander Bastow.

The beauty pageant takes place in Huddersfield this Saturday and will be the first of its kind for the Isle woman.

Rachael, a former Haxey Primary and South Axholme School pupil who now works in a Doncaster BT call centre, is excited but nervous about the event, which if she wins could see her in the beauty trade spotlight.

She told the Bells/Advertiser: “I’ve done fashion shows before in aid of charity but I’ve never taken part in a beauty pageant or competition.

“One of my friends sent me an email which said there was sponsorship available for just one person to take part in the event. All I had to do was send an email in about the things I had done for charity - and I have been raising money for Alex Strong.
“When I heard I was in the final I was really surprised, and I am really scared.”

The competition involves contestants taking part in five rounds - white showcase, fun fashion, talent, beach/summer wear and evening wear/interview.

Each round is marked out of ten and the contestant with the highest overall score will be crowned the winner.

Rachael said: “I’ve got most of my outfits sorted apart from the white one. I have had lots of help from Nichola Rhoades (See page 2) who I’ve been friends with since I was little, and she gave me lots of advice, and I have some dresses kindly loaned from Leesa at Posh Frocks.”

If she is successful Racheal will not only win a sash and crown but will get the chance to take part in modelling shoots and fundraisers so people will start to recognise her face.

“The whole pageant is about raising money for charity,” Rachael explained. “As a finalist I need everyone to fund raise for Cancer Research UK via our just giving page www.justgiving.com/misscommunityuk the contestant who raises the most will be awarded Miss Community UK Charity 2012.”

The event was launched in 2010 by international beauty queen Natalie Marie Mitchell.

Community United Kingdom pageant is the first of its kind to be based in Huddersfield in West Yorkshire. A competition spokesman said: “Everyone is born beautiful and talented, our aim is to encourage and inspire others to follow their own dreams ambitions and passions.”
