Proposal was defeated

MEMBERS of Epworth Town Council have voted against the reinstatement of memorial stones at its Burnham Road cemetery.

Approximately 14 memorials have been reinstated by relatives of those buried at the cemetery but a number still need attention, following unsuccessful appeals for family members to come forward.

Many stones date back 100 years and the council has encountered difficulty in contacting descendants of those buried at the site.

Councillor Liz Redfern proposed for reinstatement of all remaining memorials however this was defeated by a 10-3 vote at this month’s regular meeting.
