The founder of National Poetry Day, William Sieghart, will be hosting an event at Tickhill Library next month.
It is part of a national tour promoting his ‘Poetry on Prescription’ initiative - Mr Sieghart firmly believes in poetry’s ability to see readers through the most difficult moments of life and has published an anthology of inspiring poems called Winning Words.
At the event on Tuesday, February 11 from 6.30pm to 8pm, he will read from his book and explain to audiences why he believes that poetry can be better than therapy. He will also prescribe a poem for any problem that is presented to him, with attendees invited to book ‘appointments’.
Coun Bob Johnson, Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, said: “This looks set to be an interesting event and I would encourage people to book early to avoid disappointment.”
Tickets are £1.50, which includes refreshments, and are available from Tickhill Library. To book email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01302 742871.
