POLICE have been helping people secure their number plates after a spate of thefts.
Officers from Bentley, Adwick and Askern Safer Neighbourhood Teams visited Morrisons supermarket on York Road and Bentley Road Garage, to fit shoppers’ cars with anti-theft number plate screws to protect them from being stolen and used in crimes such as thefts from petrol stations.
More than 170 number plates were secured on the day, with people also being given information on how to regist their mobile phones and other electrical equipment on Immobilise, the national database used by police forces nationally to help trace and return items to the rightful owner if they are ever stolen.
Acting Sergeant Paul Setterfield said: “This was a great operation which has greatly assisted the public to help protect themselves from becoming a victim of crime. It has also highlighted how local businesses are supporting us in preventing crime, and from the positive feedback received, we will be planning another operation in the near future.”
