A police car which ploughed into a tree in Doncaster was not responding to an emergency 999 call.

South Yorkshire Police have confirmed that the officer sustained only minor injuries in the incident in Jossey Lane, Scawthorpe, yesterday afternoon and that the officer was not responding to an emergency at the time.
Investigations are still ongoing into the cause of the accident shortly after 1pm and SYP said no further details would be released about the incident.

The South Yorkshire Police Vauxhall Astra collided with the tree, forcing the road to be closed for a time.

Paramedics attended at the scene while vehicle recovery teams loaded the battered vehicle onto the back of a low loader.

The vehicle had suffered damage to its driver’s side front wing with pieces of the tree embedded within the wreckage.
