IF YOU went down to St Oswald’s Church in Crowle you were sure of a big surprise!
For around 30 children and their parents took part in a teddy bear’s picnic last month which included lots of Olympic activity and a visit from local torchbearer Alan Rayment.
Organiser Jane Turner explained that the event started with Alan explaining to the youngsters, who were aged from birth to ten, about the different paralymic sports that were available including javelin and boules.
They then got to try their hand at a ‘mini pentathlon’ - score a goal, shot putt, high jump, long jump and discus - before creating their own medals and Union Jack flags.
As the picnic began the weather took a turn so the blankets were taken into church and everyone ate indoors before Rev Mary Stonier said a prayer, led singing and everyone recited the Lord’s Prayer.
Jane said: “It went really well and was very successful. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.”
