HUNDREDS of mourners have paid their final respects to a former Thorne mayor and Doncaster Council ward member.
Some of the highest political figures in the borough during the last decade were among the congregation at the funeral of Carol Williams.
Mrs Williams, died earlier this month aged 58, after losing her fight against liver cancer.
Her funeral was held on Tuesday at St Nicholas Church in Thorne.
Relatives including husband and Community Group leader on Doncaster Council, Coun Martin Williams, were joined by other political figures including former mayor Martin Winter and present incumbent Peter Davies.
Mrs Williams, originally from Intake, moved to Thorne with husband in 1984.
She was elected as a councillor for Thorne on Doncaster Council in 1999. She was also mayor of Thorne from 2007 until 2009, while she was on Thorne and Moorends Town Council.
Mrs Williams announced she was standing down from politics before May’s local elections because of ill health.
