An entertainer who has performed 150 shows in Doncaster over the past 30 years has been forced to find a new venue – after being told he wouldn’t be able to play the town’s Cast theatre.
Acclaimed hypnotist Andrew Newton, one the most prolific performers at the Civic Theatre since the 1970s, will now stage an autumn date at the Parklands Ballroom after bosses at the £22 million theatre informed him that his views on hosting a show weren’t compatible with theirs.
He said: “They made it quite clear they didn’t want my show as it didn’t fit in with the kind of acts they want.
“I’ve had 36 years in showbusiness and have never been told I am not wanted anywhere.
“I wish Cast all the best in the future, but Parklands is my new home in Doncaster now and I am looking forward to playing there.”
He has organised a date at the Wheatley Hall Road club on November 15 and tickets, priced £8.50 and £4.50 for under 14s, are now available from the venue by calling 01302 349 881. He has also promised lots of new material.
In an email sent to Mr Newton, Graham Whitehead, head of marketing at Cast, said: “We have decided not to progress a relationship with you. Our views on audiences in the area don’t seem compatible.”
