This weekend, Saturday 15 August, the Right Up Our Street team, supported by members of the Balby Community are bringing something magical to the area.

Balby by the Sea is a project that we’ve been working on for many months.

And it has so far involved more than 2,000 people ,who have helped us prepare for this Saturday’s spectacular event.

We have seen a total of 400 people decorating big ice creams, we have arranged for more than 1,000 Balby by the Sea bags printed and there have been over 500 people who have made mosaics, key rings and bunting to add to the day.

Right Up Our Street is all about engaging the community with arts projects .

And this will be a great showcase of how lots of people’s efforts can be pulled together to create a day of fun, participatory creative art for families from across the borough.

Visitors to Balby this Saturday will see Woodfield Club in a whole new light.

That is because we are turning the club into a central creative hub for our community gala.

This type of event has never taken place at the club before.

But in a similar way to the work we’ve done at Balby Library, bringing community members back into the building for different activities and events, we listened to the people who live in the area and decided that we wanted to use a venue that was right at the heart of the local community and bring arts activities to it.

While the theme is the seaside, our beach is a large sandpit.

And the majority of the events that are going to be taking place there are for families to take part in or experience together.

There are all sorts of entertainers and events lined up for the day

There will be trapeze artists, stilt walkers, punch and judy shows, magicians and there will be lots of creative making areas.

Balby by the Sea will be a true celebration of all the work that has been created in Balby.

It will be exhibiting works of art which have been created by members of the community.

And there will be fun and games for the whole family to enjoy.

We are really looking forward to seeing people from all across Doncaster on Saturday at Woodfield Club, everyone is welcome to come along and show their support for the arts.
