DEARNE motorists travelling through Rotherham are being reminded that a main route through the town centre will be closed this weekend.
From 7pm on Saturday, March 24, to 6am on Monday, March 26, the A630 Centenary Way will be closed in both directions to all traffic to allow for the safe demolition of Crinoline House.
The seven-storey building on Effingham Street was built in the early 1970s and housed Rotherham Council’s Social Services department before staff moved out in 2010. Contractors began the internal strip-out of the building in January in preparation for demolition.
Road signage and diversions will be in place and South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive has pledged to ensure disruptions to bus service departures are kept to a minimum.
The demolition is the latest phase in the Rotherham Renaissance scheme.
