Strong southerly winds, with gusts of 50-60mph, are expected to veer westerly this afternoon and increase further, with gales likely inland and severe gales possible across exposed coasts and hills.

The Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning across Yorkshire and the Humber, meaning the public should be aware of the potential for difficult driving conditions and some minor disruption.

A spokesman said: “A deep area of low pressure is expected to track north eastwards across the Irish Sea and then northern England during Monday afternoon.

“There is some uncertainty over the track and intensity of this system, but there is the potential for some very strong winds on its southern flank.”

Gusts of 50-60 mph are likely inland, whilst gusts of 70-80 mph are possible across exposed locations such as Irish Sea coasts and across the Pennines.
