A TALENTED teenager has danced her way to success landing a prestigious ballet role in Swan Lake.
Lucy McMahon, 13, beat more than 350 other dancing hopefuls during English Youth Ballet Company auditions to land the role of a Mariinsky dancer in the highly-acclaimed ballet.
The Ridgewood School pupil has begun rehearsals to prepare for three shows at Nottingham’s Theatre Royal later this month.
Proud mum Anne, of Cusworth Lane, Scawsby, said: “She’s so pleased to be chosen and is really looking forward to the shows.
“She’s really enjoying the challenge and rehearsals and knows how big an opportunity it is for her.
“I’m really proud of her, it’s very hard-work but she’s enjoying every minute and we’ll support and encourage her every step of the way.”
Lucy, a pupil at Scawsby-based Jackie Everton Dance and Stage School, is no stranger to the stage having performed in ballet shows including Giselle and The Nutcracker, travelling to Nottingham, Manchester and Halifax for the parts.
The talented youngster, who has been dancing since the age of three, is also continuing to train at her Doncaster-based school at least twice times a week alongside the intensive ten-day rehearsal process at the Emmanuel School in West Bridgford.
Lucy will be cast alongside the company’s stunning international principal artists for the professional production, getting the chance to see what it takes to be a professional ballet dancer.
Swan Lake tells the story of Odette, a princess turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer’s curse.
Lucy will be appearing in the show-stopping production on July 27 and 28.
