VIDEO: New exhibition on the legacy of the miners’ strike

Images depicting the changing face of Doncaster’s historic mining communities have gone on display today.

Entitled Coal Fields: A Legacy of the Miners’ Strike the exhibition has opened today at Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery and examine how mining communities have changed since the year-long dispute.

Inspired by his late grandfather, photographer Andrew Foley has been working on the exhibition for seven years and it shows the docile nature’ of places that were once hives of activity.

The work features images from the sites of collieries including Armthorpe’s Markham Main, Askern, Barnburgh, Bentley and Brodsworth pit, near Woodlands.

The exhibition runs from today until April 12 at Doncaster Museum in Chequer Road.
